Swedish Bedroom

Loving this peaceful bedroom. This is from a summer house in Gotland, Sweden - a great palette of blues and greys.

Design Museum Denmark

Danish Design - I Like it! exhibition at Design Museum Denmark.

This is one cool exhibition that I would love to check out - Jasper Morrison has curated and designed this 'Danish Design - I Like it!' exhibition for Design Museum Denmark in Copenhagen. This has been conceived to celebrate the name change of the museum (previously known as 'Kunstindustrimuseet' - that was a good move) as well as the cool design history that Denmark has. Love the use of textiles on the back panels as well as the colours. I'd also want to leave with most of furnishings too...

The Home of Finn Juhl

The home of Finn Juhl
Art by Vilhelm Lundstrom.
Here is the home of the late Danish Architect and designer Finn Juhl - now fully re-installed in Ordrupgaard, the French Impressionist museum in Northern Copenhagen. Juhl's home acts as a portfoilo of his vast range of design work - he designed the house and the furniture as well as many other details - there are even prototypes for his cutlery designs. It is a great narrative of 1950's Danish design as well as being an interior that many aspire to create these days. I'm impressed how modern it still is.

Greys from Alcro.

I have previously posted about Swedish's Alcro Paints and the beautiful 'ad.white' visuals they did- see it here. The latest trend report from them is all about greys and it is lovely.
I think stylist Camilla Krishnaswamy has presented the paint colours in both campaigns so beautifully.

I Like...

PK8 (Poul Kjaerholm) chairs and PK58 table.
PK24 chaise lounge.
PK22 Wicker chairs.
PK Dining table and chairs.
PK22 Easy Chair.
I like... and have admired this Danish home of Jacob Holm, CEO of exclusive designer furniture company Fritz Hansen, for a few years. It has made a regular appearance around the interior design blogs and I still really like it today. Naturally it has several classic pieces from the Fritz Hansen brand throughout.

Whites

Different white hues from the Swedish paint brand, Alcro.
Emma's Design blog has posted these cool promotional images from a Swedish paint range called Alcro. They are releasing a new collection of white paint hues which is ideal for all the great white Scandinavian interiors that I admire.

Danish Interiors by Malene Birger

Photographs of the homes belonging to fashion designer, Malene Birger.
Life and Work: Malene Birger's Life in Pictures.
Here are some great black and white interiors from Malene Birger - a fashion designer from Copenhagen. Habitually Chic recently profiled the book 'Life and Work: Malene Birger's Life in Pictures' - it contains photographs of her homes and the interiors are classic Scandinavian style with a strong use of black and white.

Pewter Candlesticks

Simply Scandinavian edited by Sara Norrman
Dining table arrangement.
Close up of pewter candlestick from Citta.
Recently I browsed through the book, 'Simply Scandinavian' edited by Sara Norrman, and I noted a popular use of traditional pewter candlesticks arranged in the interiors. Most of the candlesticks were antique and very simple. I liked the contrast between the fresh, white and simple interiors with these traditional and substantial pieces.
Today I had a delivery from Citta for some clients of mine. We ordered a pair of the tall pewter candlesticks for their grey marble fireplace mantle. I unwrapped them to see how they looked and temporarily arranged one on my dining table.

Inspiration - Asplund Snow Dresser

Scandinavian interior with Asplund Snow dressers - via Remodelista.

Asplund Snow Dresser
Asplund Snow End Table - on Birch rails
I have been thinking about updating my bedroom drawers and previously I have admired the Asplund Snow Dresser designed by Thomas Sandell and Jonas Bohlin. They are simple and sleek. I particularly like the birch rail detail they have on the bottom. A great piece of design and good inspiration for me...

Inspiration - Pia Ulin, Photographer

Looking through Emma's Design blog, I came across the work of Swedish photographer, Pia Ulin. I recognised her interior photographic work from my numerous meanderings through magazines and books.  I can now to put her name to the work.
Above is a collection of some of her black and white, distinctively Scandinavian, interior images - check out her website  for more inspirations.

Blog Inspiration - My Scandinavian Retreat

Photographs by Hus&Hem via My Scandinavian Retreat

One regular blogging feature I would like to do for 2010 is to highlight other inspiring Interior Design blogs. Here is the first one - My Scandinavian Retreat from Pippi in Norway. She has purchased a summerhouse on the Norwegian Coast and her project is to convert it into a modern Scandinavian cabin. Divine. She posts other Scandinavian interiors that will influence her renovations. It certainly inspires me and my Swedish ancestoral blood. Enjoy.

Inspiration - Scandinavian Cool

A cool Scandinavian style Dining area - see the George Nelson hanging pendant that I have previously posted about as well as the famous Wishbone chairs. I also like the black cabinet in the corner - handy for small spaces.
