Mokum Rugs

I have just ordered this lovely Jardin des Tuileries rug in Scarlet from Mokum for a client of mine. It is 2000 x 3000mm in size and produced with Tibetan wool and Chinese silk. The pattern has Indian and French influences and is based on a Mokum fabric design from their Dauphine range (as seen on the chair above). The development of Mokum's latest fabric range Moderne 2010 can be seen on their blog 'Studio 98'.

One of Moderne's influence was French fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet (1876-1975). She designed beautiful evening dresses in the 20-30's and one of her beadworks has been re-created  by Mokum as an textile pattern called 'Vionnet'. You can also note the Peacock influence for the 'Rivoli' fabric.

Mokum Textiles is one textile brand that I never tire of. They are an Australian based textile company and every year they come out with great collections.
The latest release is called 'Moderne 2010'. Inspired by Art Deco and Parisian designers, you can see that the range is on the elegant side.
Mokum create tight designs that work back well with their previous collections - which is useful for long term interior projects. Mokum use strong design influences but that doesn't stop their designs from being modern and suit most interior styles.
I will be attending the Moderne release here in Wellington and look forward to seeing and feeling these fabric up close.

Product - Mokum rugs

Today I was introduced to the launch collection of Mokum Rugs. Have a closer look at the whole range and information here.
Mokum have done a great job of producing designs from existing textile patterns. Made of NZ wool and produced in Nepal, I was impressed by the range and am particularly taken by the Star Tile rug. Nice.
