PK Out and About - Linda Thiltgen Designs

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

When I was out and about this weekend, I ended up at  Stonecrop.  Much to my surprise and delight, I ran into artist Linda Thiltgen.  I knew she was a Minnesota artist who followed my blog, but had never met her.  What a positive, genuine, nice person she is!  We were able to chit chat a little bit about creating, blogging, etc. and it was really fun to meet her.

While I was there I snapped a few photos of some of her creations.  (To learn more about her designs, check out her website.)

I love that everything she does has an inspirational message. These reminders were a perfect way to start out my week!
Hope yours is starting out to be an awesome one...

IMPORTANT NOTE:   I've only heard from one of the giveaway winners.  I'll wait until Wednesday night, 12/1/2010, and then I'll need to choose new winners to replace the ones that I haven't heard from yet. :-(

Pom Pom/Ball Fringe

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

Patricia Gray blog

I've been seeing pom pom or ball fringe around a fair amount lately on everything from home decor to clothing (remember this scarf?) If you're a pom pom/ball fringe fan, this post shows you some ideas for incorporating it into your decor.

If you want to add some texture to your window treatment, how about using ball fringe like they did here? My inclination would have been to add the fringe to the inside edge, so the fact that they embellished the outside edge instead makes it more interesting to me.

Homes and Gardens

If you really like ball fringe, you could make this very textural cornice from BHG.com. Complete tutorial here.

If that's a little much for you, how about just using pom poms on your curtain tieback? Perennials Fabrics

Some of the other places you could add this trim are fairly obvious such as pillows, bedskirts, ottomans, towels, lampshades, etc. but a not-so-obvious idea would be to trim your office shelves.

A Weekend Update

Happy Saturday everyone! I'm feeling really guilty because I don't have the post done yet with some practical ideas/guidelines for hanging your art, and I told you that would be next. I didn't intentionally lie, but I hate just "slapping something together" and I've had some real life commitments intruding on my blogging time. I will get it done. Promise. One thing I've learned in this blogging experience is that there are a lot of pretty awesome people out there who understand real life priorities and I'm confident you'll forgive me. :-)

One of the things I need to finish today is my shopping for Operation Christmas Child, because I want to take the boxes to church tonight. I'm sure many of you are participating in this great cause as well. When they showed the kick-off video at church, it broke my heart to be reminded that there are people whose lives are completely changed just by the fact that someone gave them a pair of ordinary tennis shoes, when I've been guilty in the past of being irritated because I couldn't find the cutest pair to ADD to the shoes that I already had. We're so blessed, aren't we?

I can't wait to get started shopping! I'm like a little kid with my excitment at picking out the things, although my friends and family won't be surprised to know that I just have so much trouble DECIDING which things to buy :-).

So... I'm off to shop and I'm hoping you're all having a wonderful weekend.

Encouragement Board

I love this! It was made by Julia Pelton (The Pelton Family blog) and she said she wouldn't mind if I shared it with you.

I'm sure you may have seen many variations on this bulletin board theme, so it's not new, but two things about it really appealed to me: 1) the fact that it's beautifully made, and 2) it's not just any board. It's an encouragement board that she made for her mother for Mother's Day while she was going through treatment for an illness. She put things on it (more things than what you see here) that she thought would encourage her mother every time she looked at them.

Isn't this a great gift idea? Is there someone you know who could use an encouragement board? The complete tutorial is on Julia's blog.

I said my next post would be a decorating post. This isn't the one I was talking about (that's tomorrow), but I think it qualifies, don't you? Decorating and encouraging at the same time! Gotta love that.

Sassy aprons

Dianna over at The Devine Home blogged about these aprons today and I loved them so much I have to do the same! I'm typically not one for wearing aprons, but these are so much fun I think I may start! They don't fall under the "shopping on a very small budget" category but they're not bad and aren't they adorable?

I know at least one person for sure that is going to fall into apron love (notice the fringe on the bottom of some these?) and if she doesn't comment on this post I seriously don't know what I will do! :-)

These are from Sassy Chef Aprons:

These are from Beebops Party Wear:

Too much fun! So if you're looking for that perfect accessory for your kitchen - maybe this is what you've been missing?

Speaking of kitchens... someone asked me to post on accessorizing above kitchen cabinets so I will be doing that in an upcoming post.

Let me know what you think of these aprons. Awesome? Not your thing? Do you know of any apron sources that carry something unique and different that appeals to your taste? Share it with us!

DIY - Scratch off Father's Day card!

I know that I typically post about decorating, but I saw this on Design Dazzle's post this morning and had to share it! What a fun idea! Click here for photos and the full details on how to make the card...
