I've talked more than once about updating chandeliers (and ceiling fan lights) by surrounding them with a drum shade. But... I haven't talked about doing small drum shades on chandeliers yet, have I? I think the exaggerated cylindrical shape of the shades in the image below makes them more interesting and the mixed up fabric adds a whimsical designer touch.
harlequin(I can't remember if I've talked about table lamps yet, but putting a drum shade on a lamp can instantly give it a fresher, more updated look too!)
I like the way designer Thom Filicia seamlessly blends the TV into the decor by putting it into this niche with art above it. Placing a cozy secondary seating area in front of it makes it even less of a focal point (especially when the TV is off of course!).
House Beautiful photo Thomas Loof I've been trying to figure out if it's an optical illusion or if the sconces in this image are actually mounted directly on the mirror. If so, I think it's a clever idea.

10/7/2010: For those of you not checking comments, I thought I would add this suggestion that I gave to someone there in case it might be something you would want to try. Here's what I said in answer to a question on wallpaper: "I'm hoping we'll get some answers on the wallpaper resources. I'll try to do some research on it too when I get a chance. Have you found any fabric that you like? I'm not sure about applying it onto paneling but I know it can be applied to sheetrock. When I saw this home designed by Lindsey Bond featured in House Beautiful, I was immediately impressed not only by the great design but with her clever use of curtains to soften, disguise, separate spaces and create focal points.
You may remember this post where I talked about accessorizing your walls with curtains? I wish I had seen the image above at the time because it would have been another great example for that post. Love it!
In her office, the wall-to-wall open shelves disguise an off-center window while the curtains soften the space and can be closed to hide the shelves when needed (notice the ceiling mount rods). What a great way to keep the light from the window and still utilize the entire space for storage/display. The artwork hung in front of the shelves works to keep your eye in the space and off of the off-center window beyond.

I've been seeing pom pom or ball fringe around a fair amount lately on everything from home decor to clothing (remember this scarf?) If you're a pom pom/ball fringe fan, this post shows you some ideas for incorporating it into your decor.
If you want to add some texture to your window treatment, how about using ball fringe like they did here? My inclination would have been to add the fringe to the inside edge, so the fact that they embellished the outside edge instead makes it more interesting to me.

"Wallpaper" your walls with photos. Normally this idea would be a little busy for me, but they've used all white mats and the frame colors are consistent with the colors used in the furnishings and fabrics in the room which keeps it from getting crazy. Notice how they've also done a version of the color block by leaving a wide white border around the wall color...

If your room is feeling a little too neutral and you don't want to make a big commitment to color, hang inexpensive artwork in colorful frames. When you're tired of the color, swap out the artwork and paint the frames a different color or go all neutral again.

She also used chalked lines to turn the family's deck into a game board for oversize chess pieces. Fun!
In the living room, a branch sculpture by the fireplace, succulents on the mantle, a bouquet of greenery on the coffee table, tree stump side tables, and the art work adjacent to the entertainment center is reminiscent of tree bark. The organic looking chandelier over the dining table is an antique factory basket with a cotton duck cover, so it's not exactly from the outside, but has a very organic look and there's fresh fruit and paperwhites on the table.

I view zebra print as more of a statement print - if overused it loses it's punch (my opinion). My personal preference would be to use it only once in a room. There are exceptions such as matching accent pillows, etc., and the Pottery Barn room below is a good example of an exception that works for me. (I really like the way they layered the artwork, don't you?)
Napoleon Upholstered Chair at Pottery Barn I love this chair in Janell's (Isabella & Max Rooms) family room. As you can see the chair looks great on it's own, but the small zebra accent pillow adds just a touch of extra panache.
