This is the classy Hollyford sofa from Thonet. My clients and I are looking at a pair of these for their Living Room and to cover in fabric rather than leather. Nice lines and so classic.

I'm a fan of re-upholstering existing furniture. It is environmentally friendly, you can choose the fabric and it is hard to find good furniture that tick all the boxes these days.

These clients were open to buying new furniture - however, we realised that these pieces fitted well in the existing interiors and all were still comfortable.

So we re-holstered them all (a great upholsterer is essential and I have one of those) as well as improving the insides with new foam and feather. They were better than new when they came back and the clients very happy.

New Built in Sideboard

When I first visited this house, the clients barely used the main Living area. The furniture layout was not working and the little back room attached to the Living Room (what we now call the Library) was under utilised as it was uncertain of its function.

We placed a built-in Sideboard for the TV and storage against one wall. This created a focal point for the furniture to be placed against. The back room became a 'Library' and a shelving unit with a little desk was designed for its main wall. The joinery were finished in a light colour to contrast with the muted grey walls.

Finishing touches of new drapery, re-upholstering existing furniture, new cushions and accessories has helped this room become more cohesive and the clients now retire here every night.

There's still a coffee table to be found for the centre of the room and the clients are slowly filling the shelves for the library.

Crafty 'Birthday Hat' on display

Here's a new Joinery Unit that was designed for a new Living room. The client was after a clean and modern Scandinavian look so the unit was kept simple and white. The clients have young children so two large toy drawers were added for an easy tidy up.
The shelves are slowly being filled with books, ceramics, vintage toys and quirky crafts - the white backdrop let these shine.
This open space was ideal for a corner sectional sofa so this Forma 'Pad' sofa was purchased. It is so big and soft - ideal to sink into and watch TV. The chocolate brown fabric has a soft grey lattice pattern and is a great contrast to the crisp white. There is good space in front for a coffee table (which is chosen - just letting the budget catch up!)

New Work - Re-upholstering

One of my jobs had a re-upholstery furniture delivery this afternoon. I quickly took these photos to show the great transformation!
Before, these chairs were in a hessian-like ink blue fabric and the seat cushions were too long, therefore sticking out at the front and uncomfortable under the knees. A bold graphic fabric, a 're-feather' to the insides and a re-shape to the seat cushion has resulted in looking brand new once again. They look amazing.
This particular job has had other great re-upholstered furniture and general interior work done - I will take more photos once it is completed.

You can't beat a window seat in a sunny spot. This house renovation (with new windows) allowed for a window seat in the Living Room. This created more seating and extra storage with drawers below.

New Work - Soft Furnishings & Details

Following on from the 'Before and After' postings - here are the new soft furnishings and details from this job. The client is particularly fond of Robins Egg Blue so we used this as the main palette for the fabrics chosen. We used contrast piping on the existing old style furniture and the cushions to create contrast and give a nice crisp edge.

For the cushions, we used a range of textures, like velvet and moire (watermarking) and soft French-influenced patterns for interest.

New Work - Soft Furnishings

I am slowly taking photos of previous jobs to update my portfolio and get ready for my new website. Here is a job from about 2 years ago where we did soft furnishings, joinery, carpet and drapery. It's still looking good - we kept to neutral colours as the clients was keeping the existing wall colours. These existing wing chairs were re-upholstered and updated with new cushions. We also added the shelves in the niche behind the chairs to create more storage.
